I hate the way LJ keeps crashing on me.

October 24th was the date of the "first invasion" of Hungary. Violence broke out in Budapest on the 23rd and that night Soviet units were alerted to move into Budapest. They arrived very early in the morning of the 24th and withdrew after some heavy fighting and negotiation on the 30th-31st. They invaded again with a larger force on November 4th that crushed the uprising militarily.
