It's about time. But you're absolutely right, more needs to be done.
Currently they have the same job protection as you do when you go on maternity leave - you are guaranteed a job at the same pay/level of responsibility, but it doesn't have to look anything like the job you left. Or something like that. At least, that's my understanding.
Part of the traumatic nature of coming home is often having to adapt to a whole new job, often with huge learning curve, while seeing your potentially beloved job done by someone else - you lose your place, and it's hard. Or so I have read - I am neither a reservist or somebody who has had a mat leave. :)
