"Organ n' lentil gumbo" was my specialty for a while. Who says food needs more than one colour or texture to be palatable, grey is good for all occasions....

Ramen and KD will keep you alive but they won't keep you healthy. Aki is going through a big-appetite stage right now and fills up on both between meals.

Massive soups are the best bet, I think. Two weeks ago I made a great big lentil soup with cheap bacon ends, and yesterday an even larger batch of chili (though I used the more expensive canned beans rather than dried ones, just because I didn't plan better). Great with some fresh bread.

I'm more enthused by the idea of having a real Second Great Depression than by actually having one, and argue for frugality any chance I get. Lianne says I'm "indulging my hobo fantasies", but I regard it as training for the Inevitable Dismal Future if nothing else. When it happens I'll be ready....
