It happens only once a week, though.

b>From the [livejournal.com profile] altfriday5:

1. Are there any foods that you eat or don't eat for ethical reasons? Why?
No. Sentient beings eat what they can.

2. Are there any foods that you eat or don't eat for health reasons? Why?
I think I eat a fairly balanced diet, though I could always eat more fruits and vegetables. I'm trying to cut back on sugar.

3. Are there any foods you don't eat because they disgust you (perhaps because of the taste, texture, or method of preperation)?
Eggs on their own - boiled, fried, poached, scrambled. Can't get 'em down. But I can eat omelets, as long as they have stuff in them.
Natto - Japanese fermented soybeans. Slimy and smelly and stringy.

4. Did you ever fight with your parent(s) about what to eat? Are there any foods that you hated as a child that you like now?
I learned, after staring at a plate of congealing macaroni and cheese for several hours, that it was better on the whole to shut up and clean my plate. To this day it is part of my core programming to clean my plate, no matter how much is on it, as I can't abide wasting food or seeing other people waste food. Sometimes this means I eat more than is good for me. I wish I had been allowed to serve myself when I was a kid, so I could at least have been responsible for eating the amount I did.

5. What, in your opinion, is the biggest thing wrong with our current methods and systems of food production and distribution? What is the biggest thing right with them?
Everyone knows stories of food being dumped or destroyed because it can't be moved, or to keep prices up, while people in the same community go hungry. That's plain wrong. Another thing that disturbs me is that food today is much less nutritious than it used to be, because now it is grown for appearance or logistical convenience (things being grown with too many chemicals, and picked green and immature for trucking and storage). I am amazed, though, at the variety of exotic stuff in our grocery stores: we eat like kings compared to people of 100 years ago.
