All of these are by female authors (I had to look up James Tiptree, Jr. to verify). That must have been one of the criteria!
I've heard great things about Octavia Butler but have not read any of her works. I just recently read The Dispossessed and I am now definitely a fan of Ursula K. Le Guin.
