Sometimes bailing is the right thing to do. He may decide to go back, or he may be fully successful in his technologist job and not need to go back. But there's no point in spending money if for whatever reason it's not working out for him.
Those sound like amazing travels. I'm hoping to get to London soon, and I miss Berlin so much.
