Sounds kind of like how many Americans (and, for some reasons, the Germans) fetishize Native Americans. I knew a blonde, blue-eyed girl who went to the University of Michigan on a minority scholarship because she was one-eighth or one-sixteenth Native American (I forget which tribe). Although she did not, as some others I've met have, parade this heritage around like the Polish girl who is "probably one-quarter Polish"--she was simply glad to have the scholarship.
