Poppy Seeds

It's spring, and I have a lot of poppy seeds lying around. I can't plant them all, so if any of you would like to get some seeds from me, please let me know.

Most of them are dark red with a black centre, but many of them are coming up dark purple, almost black, viz.:

They're rather mixed up, so I am not sure exactly what you will get. I also don't know if there would be any issues about mailing seeds outside of Canada. Poppies grow pretty well around here, best spot would be a warm sunny spot with sandy soil. Germination rates are great, they come up like a little field of lettuce so you need to thin them out early for best results.

Omigoodness, i love poppies! Hmm... I'm not sure if they'd work in my "garden" or not though since i just have planters, not an actual patch of dirt... What do you think? If you've heard they grow alright in planters, I'd love some seeds :>

They'll be fine. They may not get much more than a foot tall though; their roots spread out, rather than down and they like to grow in separated clumps.

E-mail me separately with your snail mail address.

Do these produce opium?

That's a great shade. I've never seen them in that colour.

You can make some great cake with poppy seeds....(well, I love it, Peter hates it)

Okay! E-mail me with your snail mail address separately, or I could drop them off where you work after my work.

I make good poppyseed cake. Most recipes you find in North America marry poppyseeds with lemon flavour, but I prefer almond.

There's a German bakery in town that does excellent poppyseed torte.

Uh, um, technically yes. Does it matter?

the best news!

...there is a gothgardening lj community! XD i bear it no ill will, but i have to chuckle. maybe it's the idea of them all outside in the sun, or maybe it's the idea of them arguing over whether "Green Thumb" is a perk worth one or two traits that gets me going... ^_~
