Oh, gee, where to start - how about Friday? That's when weekends usually start. I went to the Bay to get a cheap digital watch with light and alarm for use in the desert, then to the George and Dragon to meet Brett for beers as I hadn't seen him in a long time. I met two of his co-workers, one of whom was into throat-singing and knew about Tuva - said he liked to try to get overtones in the bathroom or some other echoey place to frighten the cats. If they're around, they will come to the Tuvan Independence Day party this Saturday (yes, Mxo bought the Calpis and I have the Stoli, so we'll meet in the Mongolian middle and have some fake koumiss again this year!). Friday night Gothvic coffee not too many people, but I had a good talk and Anne walked me to the bus stop. All the way home on the bus, I sat in one of those stale-alcohol funks that winos exude around them, but when I sneaked a peek behind me it was a sour-faced but half well-dressed woman. Must have been a long day at the wine bar at Swan's. I got home and recorded 1984 on video for Eve while fiddling around with baggage, then I watched something else that has been lost to all but subconscious memory... went to bed at 0357 (as my new watch told me in the dark).

Saturday afternoon Aki and I poured in the back yard. I think the trick to getting shinier and smoother castings is to lay on the graphite (used inside the mold surface as a release agent). I have a total of about 70 pieces now but want to cast quite a few more. I also spent a fair bit of time cleaning up some castings with grinding wheels etc. on the Dremel tool, and drilling holes so the castings can be hung like amulets - got some earring hooks as well for those who want to suspend the two-ounce leaden Order of the Giant Robot from their piercing holes. I also took some epoxy putty I had found at Value Village and used it to bond pinbacks onto two of the little "Eskimo astronaut" people Aki had made. It seems to work. I gave one to Shannon and one to Anne.

All that time sitting and standing in the sun and the fumes and dust gave me a thumping headache (it's OK, we wore filter masks and goggles this time), so I caught a short nap before Prophecy that kind of put it at bay for a while. Good music at the show, and it seemed that a lot of newer people showed up, but I found I don't really have my dancing legs back. Two gins helped my headache, but in general I was just too tired to make a night of it and I caught the last bus home. Came home and talked to Wifey for a bit, planned to watch another cheesy movie but I went online and ended up chatting with Anne until 0600.

Sunday I slept until after 1230, and Aki and I went in the back yard and harvested poppy heads and straw. Nice bag of healthy-looking gray seed this year. At 1526 I left to pick up Daphne, and we went to see Pirates of the Caribbean at the University Heights mall. It was pretty good in a simple-minded way, and the effects for the undead pirates when the moonlight hit them were fine. Came home, checked e-mail, ate dinner, wrote cheques, went to bed early, ho hum.
