Hi everyone, just checking in during that brief interval of energy and optimism that comes between getting off the bus and the first new e-mail of the day - nothing like new work piled on top of old to spoil the mood.

We got new pooters at work. Faster and with optical mice. About time, too - I had most of a muffin clogging up my keyboard. This one is black and smells like the box it came in. I was getting tired of beige. That's all the details for now.

I packed until past midnight last night. I am amazed that it looks as if I can get everything, including food and a spare tent for Joe, into one rucksack, one duffle bag and one daypack. Of course there might be some 'splaining to do at the border ("Sir, why so many AA batteries and so much oatmeal? Why do you have so much solder and no soldering iron? What is this large cloth banner of Lenin for, and why are you carrying a Chinese Army uniform with you? And what exactly are these metal blobs made of?"), but that's nothing new.

I got all my hair cut off too. My head looks like a Chiclet going gray at the temples.

I can't wait to get out of here. This is my first real vacation of more than a few days since Berlin in 1989.

Random Outburst:I hate the demands of the body - feed me, water me, let me sleep, wank me, this underwear pinches, clean me, I'm bored do something funny... and you can't get away from it, like a child that never grows up. Bah!
