Personally, I regard online payments and transactions to be things that do not involve "real" money. Same with credit cards - it's just a promise to pay, one that everyone hopes will be honoured when the time comes.
I know technically even currency (coins and bills) is a promise to pay too, on the part of the government that issued it, but it seems more real somehow.
I know this is all illogical and completely out of tune with the monetary-house-of-cards times, but there it is.
