'Cause it's been a while... from the
altfriday5:
The altfriday5 could use a little more sleep
From the
altfriday5:
1. Do you ever experience insomnia?
Yes.
2. If you do, what form does it take? You have trouble falling asleep? You wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep? Something else?
Usually my problem is that I can get to sleep OK, but then I wake up and my mind won't let me get back to sleep.
3. Have you ever used herbs, drugs or other medications in order to fall asleep or stay awake?
Yes. From time to time I have used melatonin, phenylalanine, caffeine (liquid and pills), poppy tea, Serax (generic Valium) and valerian to stay awake or go to sleep.
4. Whether through insomnia or other circumstances, how does not getting enough sleep impact you, physically and mentally?
As I get older, even one night without sleep affects me for days afterward. I get sore and my brain turns into a big chunk of eraser rubber.
5. Can you still function normally when you're short on sleep?
For a while, as long as I keep moving.
The altfriday5 thinks this song is about it
From the
altfriday5:
1. Overall, would you describe yourself as vain?
No.
2. Even if you don't think you're generally vain, you probably have things about which you're vain. What are some of these?
Little things - for example, when I am handed a group photo, I look for myself first.
3. You're walking down the street and you catch sight of your reflection in a storefront window. Do you check yourself out or look away?
I look.
4. Would you rather be excessively vain or excessively modest (assuming you don't get a happy medium)?
Modest.
5. Would you rather spend time with someone who's excessively vain or excessively modest?
Modest.
Have lunch with the altfriday5!
From the
altfriday5:
1. Do you usually bring lunch or buy it? Why?
Bring it. I'm too cheap otherwise.
2. Do you usually eat lunch with people? Why or why not? Would you like this to be different?
I usually eat at my desk, and go out walking at lunch hour to run errands ro look around.
3. What's your favourite thing to eat for lunch? Favourite place to go or thing to do?
If I had my choice - I like Chinese food for lunch (though I usually eat that whenever I go out, anyway)
4. What was lunchtime typically like for you as a child?
Over too fast.
5. Tell us about a memorable lunch experience you've had.
In the late 80s I was visiting Toronto and met my step-grandmother Sylvia, who then was a columnist for the Star, for lunch. We went to the private restaurant in Maple Leaf Gardens, since she knew Harold Ballard very well. While we were having lunch a young man came over, plunked himself and his lunch down at our table, talked incessantly and rudely with Sylvia, chewed with his mouth open, and never even acknowledged me. I learned later he was one of Harold Ballard's sons.
A life-changing altfriday5
The previous two weeks had no alfriday5's due to my first trip to Burning Man, which many have felt was a Life-Changing Experience*.
(sounds like someone got the bug!)
From the
altfriday5:
1. When was your last life-changing experience?
Getting run over by a car.
2. What changes resulted from it?
I went half-crazy, began to live and work differently, got divorced, found another partner, a number of things.
3. Was the experience planned in advance, or did it just happen unexpectedly?
No, it was quite the accident.
4. Do you tend to seek out life-changing experiences? Why or why not?
I think life-changing experiences find you, no matter what you're trying to do.
5. Describe a theoretical experience that you think would be life-changing for you.
Usually I think of some kind of traumatic loss or injury - my son dying, or getting hurt in another accident.
*An experience which causes you to make significant changes in your life or identity.
