Thirty-nine today, thirty-nine today...so what.

The older I get, the more my age seems to be a cardinal number, not an ordinal. If it weren't for the occasional free drink and modicum of attention I get by mentioning it's my birthday (oh, and a cherry pie at home), I wouldn't bother marking the occasion at all.

Your calendar age is only really important when you go to change your driver's license or start to collect OAP. The identity of the person who first said, "You're only young once, but you can be immature forever" has been lost in the mists of time (but I heard it was Dave Barry). In any event, you have loads of examples of this pensee right in front of you!

And now, let's welcome Sid Vicious, who will sing his Birthday Song for me:

Happy fucking birthday
Happy fucking birthday
Happy fucking birthday
To you....

Hey, I'm not really grumbling, I just want today to be a Good Day like the other Good Days I have - hopefully more than once a year! Too many people seem to think their birthday should be a Good Day when secretly they want it to be a Bad Day and have people feel sorry for them being a year older. Poof to that.

Thanks Dave! And happy Anniversary to you (had my tenth this August but no really good stories attached); certainly anniversaries are more personally significant to one than the day they started breathing.

Thanks! 39 is the number it needs to be - maybe I'll take a discount and revert to 26. That was a good year. Creak, creak....
