Bad night. Probably less than two hours of sleep all told; I finally got the pain under control about 5 this morning with Advil and hydromorphone, after walking in little circles in my driveway for half an hour to help it take effect.

In talking with dzherzhinski yesterday, he noted that since the tooth is not sensitive to heat or cold, it is probably not a nerve problem and what it probably is is an infection or abscess under (above?) the tooth. I need antibiotics, not another drilling session. Makes sense to me.

One thing I am thinking about doing at the expo in Phoenix is a large-scale demonstration game of my design Battle of Seattle, a game on the anti-WTO riots in December 1999 available free from my website (some kind of downloading problem with the rules right now, though).

Last year I found some policeman playsets at a local dollar store - 35 little blue cops, each 2" high, for a buck. I bought a couple of bags and converted some of them into civilians by trimming hats, cutting off revolvers, ponytail headpieces and Mohawks made of DAS clay etc.. Last night Aki and I painted them up with colourful clothes, green hair, red boots, black hoodies and so forth. Aki also made up some little signs on stickers for them to wear - "NO WTO", "EAT THE RICH", and so forth. Maybe I'll take some pictures.

Next we will make up a large map and use the figures in the demo game. Should be fun!

I would agree with the other LJer's assessment; sounds like an absess. When you can't get on top of the pain, that's a slamdunk diagnosis. With a root canal, you would not be in constant pain, and painkillers would work more than what you've reported here. Once you get the antibiotics down, coupled with naproxsyn (sp?)or another good anti-inflammatory, you'll make it through until the dental appointment.

I'm also a grinder and in fact have broken most all of my teeth through my bruxist acts. Horrible way to deal with stress...and expensive. I would never go to a French dentist (that's almost an oxymoron; have you ever seen French people's teeth?) so I fly back to the States every time I have to get dental work done. In fact, I have two crowns and a root canal booked for my upcoming summer vacation! There's something to look forward to....

Yes, that's exactly what I thought. I am using ibuprofen as an anti-inflammatory, and my appointment with the specialist is tomorrow at 0900. Until then, I'm staying gooned on Dilaudid.

Root canal or not, I need something to fix the immediate problem. Antibiotics would be best, but at this moment I would take a pair of pliers, a big needle, ANYTHING to take this pressure off my nerve. Seven hours to go before appointment. Ow Ow Ow.
