And today's formulae:

1. Tried Remedy for Onanism.
Fluid extract salix nigra (aments), Teaspoonful 3 times daily.

2. Traveler's Ink.
White blotting paper is saturated with aniline black, and several sheets are pasted together to form a thick pad. When required for use a small piece is torn off and covered with a little water. The black liquid which dissolves out is a good writing ink. A square inch of paper will produce enough ink to last for a considerable writing, and a few pads would be all that an exploring party need carry with them. As water is always available, the ink is readily made. This is a perfectly original and new recipe. Any enterprising man can make a large income out of its manufacture.

2. Aniline black is also known as nigrosine.

Happy birthday, Brian!

I didn't realize that ink could be made from black willow (Salix nigra - yay for my year of botany, horticulture and plant identification!), though I know there are plenty of other things derived from members of the salix family, most notably salicylates which are similar substances to the medicinal ingredient in aspirin. I wouldn't have thought that a very useful remedy for the condition listed above though...lol.

11. Favorite Drink: Diet Pepsi

Haha! I need you're come over to the fake-soda way! What if you had a sugar-free Fanta option? Apparently it was made in WWII as an alternative to American soda when that was unavailble.

Schönes Geburtstag, it is my dad's too.
