OK, so now I'm 40. I don't mind so much about the number but I do mind about how I seem to be slowing down. It seems as if I've aged more than the actual time that passed in the 4-5 years it took me to recover from my injury.
I also notice I've gained weight in the last month. I think someone jumped on me while I was asleep one night and buckled a fat suit on me, with the buckles in the back so I can't get to them.
On Sunday I went to Ferris' for breakfast, and later we went shopping. Betty got me a nice two-filter dust mask, and a cutter bit for my Dremel tool. That afternoon I treated the new castings with muriatic acid, but it did not seem to have much effect beyond giving the metal the same sort of dark-grey patina the H2O2+vinegar pickle did. Oh well.
No news from the Land of Abundant Rice. I presume they are returning on schedule, as stated.
Today's formula:
A Peculiar Experiment.
To change the faces of a group to a livid, deathly whiteness, and to destroy colours, wet a half teacupful of common salt in alcohol and burn it on a plate in a dark room. Let the salt soak a few minutes before igniting. The flame will deaden the brightest colours in the room, and the dresses of the company will seem to be changed. Let each one put his face behind the flame and it will present a most ghastly spectacle to those who stand before it. This is serviceable in a tableau where terror of death is to be represented. The change wrought by the flame when the materials are properly prepared, is very surprising.
