This is a big one for me, too. I was just thinking today how little joy I (periodically) feel as a parent because these two sentiments seem to overpower everything about the job.

Well, now Paris is burning as well. I'm wondering when the govt will make the decision to call in the military.

My understanding was that the many and varied French police forces are pretty militarized to begin with. I guess what concerns the government most is that the violence is spreading beyond Paris itself.
