I grind my teeth. A lot. I have a night guard, but I usually don't wear it. Monday night I was eating supper (chicken burger) when I got a pain in my lower left molar - most of it had cracked off and, I'm afraid, been swallowed.

One painful day later, the dentist put a patch of cement on it, told me not to chew on anything, and said to come in next Friday (ten days hence). Immediately, I noticed how much everyone around me was enjoying chewing things - pizza crusts, nails, gum sandwiches, etc..

I'm now on a fairly liquid diet - yogurt (which I dislike), applesauce, mature bananas, and I made a big lentil soup last night - but I wonder if I can make a hamburger smoothie for Canada Day.

I hate my teeth.

I grind my teeth as well, especially during sleep. I got a night guard years ago --after breaking a molar while eating a hamburger--and rarely sleep without it. In fact, it has such a strong Pavlovian link for me that I don't sleep well if I don't have it in. It's not sexy, but I haven't broken off any teeth since...it really has protected them.

Yours in bad toothdom,
S.

Happened to you with a hamburger too, huh?
I wonder if it was the same molar.
I guess I never gave the tooth guard enough of a chance, but it had a weird taste and I couldn't get used to sleeping with something in my mouth.
I've learned my lesson, though, and once the tooth is fixed I will start using it.
Otherwise my teeth are in pretty good condition, I do take care of them except for the grinding thing, which causes a lot of problems.

Well, it takes a while before grinding damage shows up as cracked teeth and weak spots, but if you have a good dentist, they shoudl be able to tell the signs... and they'd be happy to sell you a tooth guard, for sure.

Any toothy joke I could make would only make it worse, so I'll just send best wishes to you and your chompers instead.

re: hamburger smoothie, when my youngest sis had some mouth surgery, we put a whole can of her favorite soup [chicken corn chowder I believe] into the blender so that she could enjoy all the flavors without chewing.
She loved it.

And, HI!

You should update your link on your tribe page, the /~ltmurnau link gives a 404 now. ;p

Oooh, someone's been doing some reading! Thanks for checking in and commenting.
I will update my link. I changed ISPs, or rather my ISP changed domain names and I haven't fixed all my links.
