I am about to consume a Quaker brand "Oatmeal To Go" mushy cereal bar.

But I notice that the French name for this comestible is "Gruau sur le pouce", which to me means "gruel on the thumb".

I suppose it's true, in a sense.

That's fantastic!

And if you're like me and you read it wrong, "cruel under the thumb" is even better and could like be the byline of some evil dictator or something!

My favorite is the French name for the cat food "Happy Cat"...

"Chatisfaction".

All I can see is little kittens lipsyncking the Stones.

Cute.

My daughter pointed out to me the other day that the 'recorder' instrument that she plays at school is, in French, a "beaked flute" ... and of course that's all we call it now. Sorta like my catipiller sweater (chenille to the rest of you).

"Sur le pouce" is an idiomatic expression meaning "to do something impromptu".

I like cookie dough, or "petit biscuit"
